Jeremy Sole
Jeremy Sole is on a mission to show how music is a singular universal language, and that each culture’s rhythms and melodies are no more than slang - different accents of the same mother tongue. Collecting vinyl from around the world for over 30 years, his DJ sets and remixes juxtapose global sounds into a sonic ritual for the “genre non-conforming”, blending or downright transcending era, style and tempo.
Sole has had the honor of sharing the stage and/or recording in the studio with hundreds of his inspirations over his career including Stevie Wonder, Roy Ayers, Parliament Funkadelic, Chaka Khan, Moses Sumney, Michael Kiwanuka, James Blake and literally hundreds more. Gilles Peterson named Sole "#2 DJ Of The Year, 2011" as well as "Radio Show Of The Year, 2014". Sole was the last DJ to open for both Ray Charles and Gil Scott-Heron on what turned out to be their final concerts. He deejayed for Sly Stone's birthday party, worked on music for a year with Ms. Lauryn Hill and enlisted the Daptone musicians to produce a live, all-analog reimagining of the 1976 classic "Golden Years" for David Bowie in his final days. He was asked to spin traditional New Orleans funeral dirges atop a giant animatronic octopus with Susan Sarandon, leading a procession of hundreds through Burning Man to bring Timothy Leary’s ashes to the temple. Too many stories... It's been a wild and freaky ride.
Sole is most widely known for his weekly KCRW radio show, now in its 17th year, where he helped break many now-major artists with their first radio plays including Black Pumas, Hiatus Kaiyote, Michael Kiwanuka, The Shakes (now Alabama Shakes). He aired the world radio debuts of music for Santana, Chicano Batman, Gary Clark Jr, Yusuf (Cat Stevens), Aaron Frazer, Gaslamp Killer, Saul Williams and countless others. This is his weekly "mixtape love letter" to the world, weaving a rich, soulful tapestry of culture and emotion. LISTEN BACK TO THE ARCHIVES AT WWW.KCRW.COM/JEREMYSOLE
LE FRIQUE SONIQUE, his newest incarnation, is the only recurring event he currently curates and produces, flying in his absolute bucket list of world renowned DJ and musician friends to join him at his monthly soundclash at the Moroccan Lounge, on the outskirts of Little Tokyo and the DTLA Arts District.
